May 8th Friday Update
Hello Qayqayt Families,
The weather has started off quite nice for the first week of May and the forecast for this weekend looks amazing, we are sure that a lot of you will be outside enjoying the weather. Do not forget your sunscreen!
It continues to be a very busy time for everyone involved with remote learning and we would like to take a moment to thank you again for all your support during this time of uncertainty. You continue to put your trust in us with providing your children with engaging learning opportunities and being our eyes, ears, hands and heart while we are apart from them.
As you have heard from the Premier (in collaboration with recommendations from the Provincial Health Officer) and our Superintendent of Schools, that there will be phased-in approach that will see slow return to in-class instruction over the next month. We will be moving to Stage 3: remote learning continuing for most students, with an optional, part-time return to in-class instruction for students whose families need to have their children in classes by no later than the beginning of June. As of yet we do not know what this will look like, but the District are starting to work on a plan.
We have a lot to do over the coming weeks to ensure the safety our students, staff and families. We will soon be reaching out with details of the plan and a survey with details needed for you to make a decision on whether you would like to complete the remainder of the school year through a slightly modified version of remote learning or in the voluntary, part-time return to some in-class instruction. As stated by our Superintendent, whichever option you choose, your child will be afforded equal opportunities to receive support through this new phase.
You may have also heard that all students will receive a report card. Teachers will determine final grades for students based on both the work completed before the suspension of in-class instruction and the assessment of learning that has, and will continue, to occur while in-class instruction is suspended, and learning continues. We also know that some of our families and their children are finding remote learning difficult and therefore, have not fully engaged in the learning opportunities. Please be assured that your child will not be penalized in any way. A letter will be sent out on Monday, to all families, explaining the reporting process in more detail.
Next week, we are having a Spirit Day on Thursday…”Hat and Sunglasses Day”. We are encouraging our students to wear “Hats and Sunglasses” during the day while working, participating in Google Meets/Zooms etc. It would be great if you could take a picture and send it to us. We would love to see the kids and maybe even share the pictures via Twitter in our next weekly video.
Have a good weekend and Happy Mother’s Day/Most Important Female in your Life Day!
Remember we are all in this together and together we will get through this.
We miss you!
Karen and Nadia
