April 17th Family Update

Hello Qayqayt Families,

As the week comes to an end, there certainly has been a lot more activity this week.  All of the teaching staff now have their Google Classrooms set up and have posted tasks/assignments for students and families to navigate their way through this week trying to help bring a little bit of normalcy back.  We know that our teachers have reached out to students/parents through video, phone calls and emails throughout the week working out any technical ‘glitches’ that may have occurred and we have had a lot of feedback from our staff about how happy they are to be in touch with their students again.  They sure miss them!

Students/Families can now expect that teachers will have lessons/activities up and running each week in Google Classroom.  The tasks may vary each week as well as the expectations for completion.  As we continue to move forward with online learning, it is important that we continue to reinforce the guidelines concerning digital citizenship with our students

We understand that every child’s learning journey may look different and just as we change lessons, expectations, due dates, etc. please know that you can do the same at home.  Your job continues to support your child in their learning in this time of uncertainty and if you as a family need to take a step back and slow things down we understand.  The most important thing that you can do during this time is to make sure that your family is safe, healthy and supported.  So please, do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything.  It is our job to help support our students and their families.

As a school district, we have been very busy aside from the remote learning.  Our School District has been very busy implementing the requests of the Ministry of Education.  We have loaned out more than 500 devices to support our remote learning, began nutritional supports for families in need and opened daycares to support Essential Service Workers.  Thank you to WCAS, our teachers and support staff who have stepped forward to assist with the daycares.  Taking care of our families is the most important thing right now for all of us and if you find that you are in need, please reach out to us so that we can help support you.  We need to continue to stand together to help all of us get through this and as a district we hope we are doing our best to find ways to support our families.

On behalf of the staff, we would like to take a moment to thank you all for your support over the last couple of weeks.  Life has certainly thrown all of us a curve ball and we are continuing to learn on the go.  We are doing our best figuring out this new way of teaching and it is with your support we will continue to help your children grow.

We are all in this together and together we will get through this.  Stay safe!
